It gives me a great pleasure to welcome you again to the 4th Energy & Water Conservation Expo 2011. This conference is a co-operation between the Electricity & Water Authority in association with the National Oil & Gas Authority and The Bahrain Society of Engineers. This annual event is an excellent opportunity for our outstanding network of affiliates to come together and learn from each other, connect and revitalize our commitment to improving the lives of everyone affected by the enormous energy and water consumption at local and international levels. We need to be proactive in implementing plan and policies related to energy and water rating standards for buildings, energy efficiency programs and sustainable energy technologies and practices and it is heartening to see that serious steps are being taken by the authorities in this direction. This year Expo theme and focus will be on energy efficiency and sustainable energy. Efficient energy use is our goal to reduce the amount of energy required to provide products and services. Energy efficiency and renewable energy are said to be the twin pillars of sustainable energy policy and efficient use of energy reduces energy costs and results in a financial cost saving to utilities and consumers. Reducing energy use is also seen as a key solution to the problem of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It can be used to reduce the dependence and energy imports and may slow down the rate at which domestic energy resources are depleted. Energy & Water Conservation Expo 2011 objective is to provide water professionals in the Gulf Region with valuable information on innovative water technologies that can be used to help the Region develop a sustainable water environment, alongside rationalize consumption percentage of our Energy and Water natural resources in all sectors, by applying energy conservation technologies and methods. All forms of energy and water efficiency products are not trade items, they are about smarter ways of achieving the same result. The Energy and water conservation expo 2011, is addressing the government authorities, private sector companies, experts in the _elds of electricity and water conservation, and the general public. The conference aims at generating both policies and projects, highlighting the demand-based solutions to assist the electricity utilities and industries round the globe to overcome the heavy energy consumption. The cumulative dedication of the organizing committee and singularity of the Expo’s purpose are truly inspiring, and I am very confident that the Expo will be a great success.
